Thoughts on living well as I prepare to serve in China.

Geneva

More than a few times over the past few days conversation has turned to college memories, and I realize now that I’m gone what an amazing four years of school I had and what an awesome set of friends I made during those four years. It’s been fun to brag about all the cool stuff we did and the fun times we had–from 2nd Floor Memorial to 4th Floor Arms–and I can honestly say my stories rank right up there with the best of ‘em. So anyway, Matt, Chris, Brandon, Piper, Sam, Wilsey, Nate, Jason, Dre, Boyle, Eddo, H.P. or whoever might be reading this, thanks for some great stories and for being great friends. I miss you guys a lot and hope you’re well. Keep in touch!

Oh, and funny, sort of interesting thing–of everything in America, I think, Geneva College actually feels the most abstract to me… for some reason I can’t get my head around the fact that people are there and classes are about to start up. But if you’re there, say hi for me, remember it’s a great place, and keep making great stories. OK, peace.

The Great Wall

They sell this shirt here in China, and it reads simply: “I climbed the Great Wall of China.” When I get home I’m gonna make my own t-shirt: “I puked over the Great Wall of China.” Today’s the first day I’ve had even the slightest queasiness (since I got off the airplane) and it happened to occur at the top of the Great Wall. As a result (and as you can see), I don’t have any pictures from the top, but I do have one of my gondola ride down. Sorry about that–I still had a good day regardless. The one picture is of my team, from L to R, Ryan, myself, Dave and my team leader Matt. In the one picture from the wall, you can see a lonely tower on the hill; we weren’t sure, but most likely that’s a remnant of the orginal wall… all the stuff you climb and see now is pretty much fake. And last but not least, there’s a throwback to Tiananmen of me and Moa. Somebody asked for more pictures of me, so there ya go. Hope you’re all well.

Inside the Forbidden City

It was a clear day in Beijing, so you can see the mountains. Also, on some of the buildings you can see scaffolding; a lot of the Forbidden City is being restored in preparation for the 2008 Olympics. The one picture is a view down the famous Emporer’s Walk. These were all taken Wednesday, by the way, my first full day in China.
